Resident Evil 5:Retribution Review
Yesterday at Cineplex Yorkdale I saw the latest installment in the Resident Evil film franchise.
Rating 7.5 /10 Stars
What I liked :I loved the way the film opened having the sequence of events be reversed. The way they did it was fantastic and it was shot extremely well. The whole film was well shot. I loved the scene between Alice and the horde of zombies in the Umbrella facility where she fights with a bike chain. That was well planned out stunt wise and looked fantastic on screen.
Fan service Leon and Ada Wong: Though Leon Kennedy did not look how I would imagine him to look in a live action scene Ada looked the part perfectly! The little fan service spot in the helicopter where we see Leon put his hand on Ada's thigh paid homage to their relationship in the game.
Ada Wong: FINALLY we see Ada in real life ! I have to admit the actor portraying her did a fantastic job and made fighting in a dress look easy.
Recap of first four films : I liked the little recap we had of the first four films it refreshed viewers memories of the plot and connected it very nicely.
What I didn't like:
Wesker: We hardly see him at all and when we do I don't buy him as the total evil bad ass he is in the games. I don't buy him as Wesker at all...
Jill Valentine : Seeing Jill in her blue suit, blonde hair and red scarab control device was awesome and looked great on screen but again I didn't buy her performance at all it seemed cheesy at times.
Clones: The clone aspect was a total confusing aspect to grasp in terms of the story line. Seeing two "Rain's" was extremely confusing and I found myself feeling lost at times.
Ending: Catching up with Wesker and co at the end in the "White House" no doubt just didn't make that much sense. Also giving back Alice her powers after taking them away in the previous film just seemed like a sloppy ending. I mean yes we see that the world is in total chaos and those who are left have to fight but still I was just left slightly disapointed.
Overall I enjoyed and I know the ending leaves interpretation for a 6th film (which I am sure is on it's way next year) Many will probably disagree with me and say this is the worst one in the series but I think it was done quite well.
Next film to review :TBA
